In collaboration with FIFA, the SAT and Hubblo present a double feature of immersive films dedicated to two exceptional painters: Soul Symphony - The Art of Alex Janvier, premiering for the first time, followed by Hurtubise: Orchestrating Chaos.
The International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA) is dedicated to promoting and showcasing films on art and media arts on an international scale. Held annually in March, the festival presents the latest art documentaries, along with a selection of interactive and virtual reality works. The 44th edition will take place in theatres from March 12 to 22, 2026.
As part of the Festival, the SAT and Hubblo present a double feature of the films Soul Symphony - The Art of Alex Janvier, premiering for the first time, followed by Hurtubise: Orchestrating Chaos.
Hurtubise: Orchestrating Chaos is an immersive experience created by Normal Studio, combining the visual art of Jacques Hurtubise with the music of Hippie Hourrah. Structured chronologically and elevated by the artist’s gestures, it brings audiences closer than ever to his carefully animated works, allowing them to be seen and appreciated in an entirely new way.
Echoing the relentless exploration that defines Jacques Hurtubise’s practice, the audience dives into splashes of paint, examines the gesture, and follows the winding paths of creation. Divided into six cycles retracing key moments in the artist’s career, the experience highlights the richness of this extraordinary body of work that has left a lasting mark on Canadian art history. A true journey through his most emblematic works, Orchestrating Chaos underscores the ever-renewed relevance of this unparalleled artist.
Soul Symphony - The Art of Alex Janvier invites audiences to immerse themselves in a vibrant universe of undulating colors, connecting our minds to the cosmos and to all living beings through the art of the late Alex Janvier (1935–2024). A pioneering figure in contemporary Indigenous art, Janvier developed a singular visual language, freed from the aesthetic constraints of traditional galleries. True to his heritage and artistic vision, Soul Symphony unfolds in a spectacular 360-degree dome projection that fully envelops the audience.
Through an immersive narrative carried by previously unheard recordings of the great painter’s voice, movement, nature, art, and imagination resonate together. A member of the Cold Lake First Nation, on Treaty No. 6 territory, Janvier’s work reflects the perspective of a Dënesųłiné man shaped by his experiences, culture, and spirituality. His words and art have touched audiences around the world, reminding us of our belonging to the living world and of our interdependence.
Join us for these performances in the SAT dome from March 11 to 20 at 5:30 PM.
