MURMURATION : A VIRTUAL REALITY EXPERIENCE OFFERED FREE OF CHARGE IN MONTREAL FOR INTERNATIONAL MIGRANTS DAY

Montreal, 24 November 2025 - On International Migrants Day, December 18th, the immersive virtual reality experience murmuration (19 minutes), created by Patricia Bergeron, will be offered for free at various cultural and community venues across Greater Montreal. This special exhibition is an initiative of Hubblo in collaboration with the Table de concertation des organismes au service des personnes réfugiées et immigrantes (TCRI), which is contributing to the initiative by providing educational materials and encouraging mobilisation around migration issues.

After a remarkable international tour, presented for the first time in Montreal at Vues d'Afrique, Murmuration invites viewers to meet Kanope, a young Nigerian who is making the journey to Europe. Inspired by real-life stories, the narrative is told by migrant minors who arrived in Sicily between 2015 and 2020. A shocking dive into humanity.

Screening locations in Montreal and the surrounding area include:
  • Maison de la culture Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie (18 December)
  • Maison de la culture Marie-Uguay (Southwest) (18 to 20 December)
  • Quai 5160 (Verdun) in collaboration with Ciné-Quartier (18 to 20 December)
  • Bibliothèque Robert-Bourassa, in collaboration with the Maison de la culture Outremont (18 to 21 December)
  • Carrefour d’Interculture de Laval (18 December)
According to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), approximately 208,679 migrants and refugees were registered in 2024 on the three major ‘Mediterranean routes’ via perilous journeys. While their numbers are lower than in 2015, their journeys are increasingly deadly. Deaths and abuse are very common along land routes, across deserts and in remote border areas. And every year, thousands of people perish or disappear at sea without a trace.

Murmuration is a virtual reality animated documentary fable based on interviews with underage migrants who have made the journey from Africa to Italy. The experience is available in French, English and Italian.
