Special Double Screening – Mission UMBRA and Mission SKÖLL

Discover Dorothy Project’s 360° celestial explorations with Mission UMBRA and Mission SKÖLL, featuring the creative team at the Montréal Planetarium.
On November 24, discover the behind-the-scenes stories of Project Dorothy’s missions through two stratospheric adventures!
Mission UMBRA is a 360° immersive experience that takes you back to the total solar eclipse of April 8, 2024, as the Moon’s shadow swept across the Mégantic region at over 4,000 km/h.
To capture this extraordinary celestial event, a small Québec-based team of artists, scientists and videographers launched a module named “Dorothy,” equipped with several 360° cameras, into the stratosphere. This technological feat made it possible to capture breathtaking images of the phenomenon from the edge of space.
Stunning images of our planet from above, along with the shadow that envelops us in a shared moment of wonder and introspection. A brief pause in our lives that invites us to reflect on our place in the universe and our relationship with our fragile home: planet Earth.

“An exceptional and immersive perspective” – Ève Christian, Radio-Canada
The creative team will then present its latest mission in Iceland through the 23-minute documentary Mission SKÖLL.
In collaboration with the Icelandic Space Agency, Project Dorothy launched two modules into the stratosphere in August 2026 to capture the Moon’s shadow over this land of fire and ice. This mission, carried out using cutting-edge technology, was featured in a National Geographic report titled What Begins When an Eclipse Ends, written by journalist Carmina Balaguer.
“I was fortunate to experience the two minutes and seven seconds of totality from the observation spot reserved for astronauts. There, I reflected on how eclipses can offer us a glimpse of something similar to the ‘overview effect’ – the profound shift in consciousness astronauts experience when viewing our planet from space.” – Carmina Balaguer
The screenings will be followed by a Q&A session with the project’s creative team, who will share behind-the-scenes insights into these adventures at the intersection of art, science and space exploration.
