Jacques Hurtubise

Jacques Hurtubise was born in Montreal, Quebec, in February 1939. Freshly graduated from the Montreal School of Fine Arts in 1960, he moved to New York, where he discovered American Abstract Expressionism—a movement he would brilliantly integrate into his own artistic language. Through his large-scale paintings, screen printing, and digital printmaking, Hurtubise distinguished himself with the originality of his approach, the complexity of his compositions, and his masterful use of color. Over five decades, his bold and distinctive body of work was exhibited across Canada, the United States, and Europe. Jacques Hurtubise passed away in December 2014 in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
About Hippie Hourrah

Hippie Hourrah
Music band
Hippie Hourrah is a neo-psychedelic band from Montreal. The group consists of Cédric Marinelli, Miles Dupire-Gagnon, and Gabriel Lambert. Prior to the formation of the band, the three musicians have worked with various outfits, including Anemone, Elephant Stone, and Les Marinellis, with whom they have produced landmark “belle province” garage, pop and psych albums and toured Europe and America.
Since its creation, the trio—supported onstage and in the studio by numerous collaborators—has performed at major events in Quebec, the rest of Canada, and Europe. Hippie Hourrah has notably performed at the Francofolies de Montréal, at Focus Wales in the UK, and at the Transmusicales de Rennes. Media reaction has been enthusiastic: Les Inrockuptibles praised the group highly ("These guys look like they don’t give a damn, but they tick like clockwork, with raw and insane riffs […] essentially everything to please."). The American station KEXP-FM took advantage of Hippie Hourrah’s 2022 European tour to record a live performance—a real coup for a Quebec band.
After their eponymous debut album, released on Simone Records in 2020, Hippie Hourrah returns in 2023 with Exposition individuelle, a concept album around the work of Quebec painter Jacques Hurtubise (1939–2014). The album’s lyrics were co-written by author Ralph Elawani and Cédric Marinelli.
