2020 | Canada | Directed by Randall Okita | Produced by NFB
In 1935, Yonezo Okita left his home in Hiroshima, Japan, and began a new life in Canada. Then war and state-sponsored racism changed everything: he becomes the enemy. Three generations later, his grandson, artist Randall Okita, invites us on a virtual interactive pilgrimage through a moving story of immigration and family, in search of a lost past. The Book of Distance is designed to be shown in art centers, museums and galleries, places staged to make the experience tangible.
